Job Description

This appointment is a 40-hour primary clinical position that involves participation on a multi-disciplinary team, with clinical responsibilities to provide direct billable clinical work in evaluating and treating child/adolescent mood, behavioral and/or anxiety disorders. Clinical population includes primary focus on youth ages 5-21 with disruptive behavior disorders, anxiety disorders, and mood disorders.  Applicants should have advanced CBT, DBT, or IPT training comprising supervised clinical experience using this modality for 6 or more months.  Applicants with full licensure, psychotherapy training, and semi-structured instrument reliability will be considered the most qualified.  Applicants with comfort, knowledge and experience using telehealth/virtual visits will be necessary.  Although this position is primarily clinical, applicants should have the knowledge base and experience to participate in the education and training of students and staff from social work and other disciplines.

You will be responsible for:

  • Primary duties include mental health assessment and direct evidence-based psychotherapy (e.g., CBT, DBT) with at-risk youth primarily 5-21 and their families to facilitate an understanding and resolution of identified problems.
  • Evaluating and recording progress with respect to treatment goals, and ongoing collaboration with the patient?s care team while drawing on social work experience and ongoing assessment of patient needs.
  • Participating in weekly social work case consultation. This will require preparation, accurate and up-to-date records maintenance, and the ability to make case presentations accurately and concisely.
  • Brief therapeutic interventions utilizing evidence-based psychotherapies, psychoeducation, safety planning, assisting family members in understanding and supporting the patient, grief counseling, and referrals to community resources are some of the skills needed for this position.
  • Specialty consultation and networking with teachers and school staff.
  • Provision of mental health education to the targeted population.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
  • A Master's degree in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education.
  • A current license to practice social work in the State of Michigan.
  • Previous clinical social work experience, including group and individual psychotherapy, with children and their families.
  • Skill in quickly developing rapport and effective communication with a diverse patient population 
  • Efficient, accurate assessment of patient needs and effective case dispositions. 
  • Effective organizational skills, flexibility, self-motivation, the ability to effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks.
  • Independent, sound decision-making is necessary for success in this position.
  • Effective collaboration with school staff while maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in keeping accurate and timely clinical documentation using electronic health records.
  • Diagnostic experience using DSM-5.
  • Experience delivering evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions (e.g., CBT, DBT, etc.) and familiarity with brief, structured interventions (e.g., Motivational Interviewing).

This is full time, 40 hour/week position. The typical schedule is Monday-Friday with start and end times 7:00a-3:00p. Some flexibility may be required.

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. Advancement through the career ladder at the Expert or Clinical Scholar Level is required for placement in the MSW Senior Classification.

This position is included in the bargaining unit represented by the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which represents bargaining unit members in all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
