Description

The Wisconsin Virtual Academies (WVA) comprise three public charter schools authorized by the McFarland School District and powered by Stride K12, Inc. (Wisconsin Virtual Academy, Insight School of Wisconsin, and Destinations Career Academy). Our mission is to provide equitable, personalized learning opportunities for students no matter where they are, who they are, or what they need. We are seeking a dynamic, motivated, and organized candidate for a subsitute full-time English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher position. Our selective interview process ensures we identify candidates who are passionate about helping students succeed, collaborative, adept at multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment, innovative, solution-oriented, and excited for the unique realities of an online learning environment.

Note: This is a LTE/Short-Term position scheduled to start in December 2024/January, 2025 (start date flexible) and end on January 2, 2026.

Position Overview:

ELL teachers manage and elevate the learning of students in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing through various service delivery models based on the student’s English Learning Plan (ELP). ELL teachers meet deadlines related to screening, paperwork, and communication. This position will work with our Spanish-speaking families who require assistance with onboarding, communication, and schooling in the virtual environment. This is primarily a remote position with some travel required for testing and professional development. It is important that you are self-motivated, reliable, creative, and passionate about meeting the needs of students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The following statements describe the general nature and scope of work performed in this position. This is not a comprehensive list of responsibilities, duties, or skills required; other duties may be assigned.

  • Demonstrate written and verbal proficiency in Spanish in order to translate for staff, families, and students
  • Design and facilitate syn synchronous instruction aligned to students’ ELPs, manage the learning process, and monitor students’ progress
  • Integrate speaking, listening, reading, and writing into daily lessons
  • Collaborate with colleagues in order to provide a positive learning experience for students
  • Write effective ELPs aligned to students’ needs and data
  • Facilitate efficient meetings that meet the needs of students and parents
  • Screen new ELL students in the fall, including scheduling and organizing testing
  • Share ACCESS results with families and staff
  • Participate in virtual meetings and trainings, as scheduled
  • Travel to and participate in professional development, in-person school events, state testing, and other events as required
  • Orient students to the online environment, communicate requirements, set and enforce expectations, maintain open lines of communication, and conduct instructional small group sessions
  • Work with general education and special education teachers to ensure student success
  • Understand how both diverse and unique characteristics of students and their families impact required support
  • Alert administrators to concerns about student performance and progress, and maintain regular contact with students and families;
  • Develop positive and engaging relationships with all members of the school community
  • Be available to students, parents, and staff from 8:00am – 4:30pm, Monday - Friday or agreed upon hours
  • Work from a professional home office environment that’s conducive to clear audio/video and a structured daily schedule

  • Able to support and guide students as well as adults
  • Adept at learning and navigating multiple student information systems and other platforms
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 (e.g., Office, Outlook, OneDrive, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
