Job Description

Sexual Assault Community Educator/Advocate BASIC FUNCTION: Provides sexual assault education, medical advocacy, workshops, and professional training to community groups, schools, and social service providers. In collaboration with the Training Coordinator and Medical/Legal advocates, provide after-hour coverage for medical and criminal justice advocacy. REPORTS TO: Director of Sexual Assault Program LOCATION: Hybrid (3 days in office – Pilsen) *may be required to travel to other sites, as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide on-call, after-hours coverage for medical and criminal justice advocacy, responding to clients within 60 minutes at the emergency room to discuss options and explain proceedings. Conduct intakes, offering information, referrals, and support linkages to survivors of sexual assault through walk-ins, phone consultations, and scheduled services. Collaborate with Program Leadership on outreach strategies to secure presentation opportunities. Develop and deliver workshops and professional training for community groups, social workers, prosecutors, and others on sexual violence, harassment, prevention education, and issues affecting Latina survivors. Increase awareness of services and resources for sexual assault survivors through internal and external outreach, including during Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Promote program visibility across all service areas, including the Cook County region, with a focus on Latine communities such as Brighton Park and North Riverside. Maintain accurate records, including outreach contacts, outcomes, participant files, and compliance with documentation standards. Identify objectives for each presentation and administer evaluations to monitor workshop impact. Support compliance with reporting requirements from funding entities and program mandates. Offer crisis intervention, information, referrals, and linkages to survivors as needed, both after presentations and on intake days. Participate in internal and external meetings as needed. Establish and manage professional relationships with partner organizations, keeping an updated list of contacts. Provide crisis intervention, information, and referrals through on-call medical advocacy and intake services. Adhere to documentation standards required by program, grant, and organizational guidelines. Participate in the delivery of 42-hour sexual assault training, community education, outreach, and continuing education sessions. Adapt training and community presentations for diverse audiences, addressing sexual violence, harassment, and issues specific to Latina/e survivors, with readiness to offer crisis intervention and linkages. Conduct outreach to engage participants in program services. Support program needs that may require availability during evenings or Saturdays, as required. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bilingual and bicultural (English/Spanish) required Effective interpersonal skills Strong oral communication and presentation skills Comfortable with the use of office software, databases, and technology. 1-3 years of experience in social services preferred. 1-3 years of prior experience with gender-based violence preferred. Bachelor’s degree in social service field or equivalent preferred. 40-Hour SA Training preferred Access to reliable transportation The position requires occasional work on evenings and weekends.
