The Willoughby Civil Service Commission is establishing an eligibility list for the position of Patrol Officer. Eligibility lists are valid for one (1) year with a possible extension of an additional year.
Scores and all required documentation must be submitted by April 18, 2025.

Salary Information: $89,273 after probation

A valid Ohio Peace Officer's Certification
Equivalent State Peace Officer's Training Certification
Proof of current enrollment in an Ohio Peace Officer Basic Training Academy
Copy of Associate's degree in law enforcement (or similar major)*
Copy of Bachelor's degree (any major)*
Copy of honorable discharge from the military (DD214)

Department Overview
The Willoughby Police Department is comprised of 43 full-time officers and 20 part-time officers including the Chief of Police, Assistant Chief of Police, Patrol Captain, Detective Lieutenant, Detective Sergeant, four Detectives, four Patrol Lieutenants, four Patrol Sergeants, 24 Patrol Officers, a Jail Officer and a Community Involvement Officer.
Area Information
The city of Willoughby became a chartered city in 1952. The City consists of a full-time Police Department, Fire Department and Service Department. Residential areas consist of a mixture of houses, apartments and condominium buildings. Willoughby has a hospital and multiple medical buildings, expansive commercial areas, industrial parkways, an airport and a vibrant downtown area. Willoughby is filled with several parks including a lakefront park, a river park and a Lake Metropark property. There is residential housing along Lake Erie. There is a high school, a middle school, and two elementary schools.

Job Requirements
Age: No person shall be eligible for an original appointment unless he/she has attained the age of twenty-one (21) years of age. No person is eligible to receive an original appointment with the City of Willoughby on or after his/her 35th birthday (per City ordinance).
Citizenship Required: Yes, must be a U.S. citizen at the time of appointment.
High School Grad/GED: Yes, must provide a copy of your high school diploma or GED equivalent.
Valid Driver's License: Yes, must provide a copy of a valid driver's license from any state.
Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes
Hiring Process: A minimum total score of 70% or higher will qualify for further stages of the hiring process. Those stages include a background investigation, CVSA, psychological screening, interview, and medical examination including drug screen.
PHYSICAL AGILITY EXAMINATION:
You do not need a physical agility certificate to take the exam. A valid Tri-C physical agility certificate (not more than 12 months old) is required before a background investigation. If a current Tri-C physical agility certificate cannot be provided before the background investigation, your name may be removed from the Patrol Officer candidate list.
