Job Description
Job description
Brief Description:
Our New York City personal injury medical practice is seeking a dedicated Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our team in a full-time role specializing in personal injury cases. This is a unique opportunity for an NP who thrives at the intersection of healthcare and law, providing compassionate patient care while collaborating with attorneys on injury claims. You will conduct thorough medical evaluations, manage treatment plans for accident-related injuries, and prepare detailed medico-legal reports. We are looking for a professional with clinical excellence and strong communication skills to help injured patients recover and support their legal cases in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
A Nurse Practitioner conducting a patient evaluation – performing exams and documenting findings, which are crucial in personal injury cases.
Key Responsibilities
- Comprehensive Medical Evaluations: Perform detailed history and physical exams for patients with personal injury claims (motor vehicle accidents, workplace injuries, slips & falls, etc.), including ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests (imaging, range-of-motion tests, neurologic evaluations).
- Treatment Plan Management: Develop and oversee individualized treatment plans for injury patients – coordinate referrals to specialists (orthopedics, neurology), prescribe medications or therapies, and manage follow-up care to facilitate optimal recovery.
- Medico-Legal Reporting: Prepare clear and thorough medico-legal reports and patient narratives documenting injuries, diagnoses, and prognoses. Ensure all medical findings and treatment recommendations are well-documented for use in personal injury claims and court cases.
- Patient Advocacy & Follow-Up: Serve as a patient advocate by ensuring continuity of care. Monitor patients’ progress, adjust treatment plans as necessary, and communicate updates to both patients and their legal representatives. Maintain meticulous electronic medical records (EMR) for each case to track outcomes and support legal documentation needs.
Required Qualifications
- Licensure & Certification: Current Nurse Practitioner certification (ANCC/AANP) and New York State NP license in good standing. Must also be licensed as a Registered Nurse in NY.
- Educational Background: Graduate of an accredited NP program (Master’s or Doctorate in Nursing). Board-certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner, Adult-Gerontology NP, or Acute Care NP.
- Clinical Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of clinical practice experience in direct patient care. Strong skills in injury assessment and management of acute conditions (e.g., musculoskeletal injuries, whiplash, sprains/strains, concussion).
- Personal Injury Knowledge: Familiarity with personal injury claims processes – understanding how medical evaluations tie into insurance claims and legal cases. Ability to document medical findings for legal purposes and knowledge of forms/protocols for no-fault insurance or workers’ compensation.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proven ability to write detailed medical reports and translate medical information to non-medical professionals (attorneys, insurance adjusters) clearly and accurately.
- New York Savvy: Understanding of New York-specific healthcare regulations and injury claim guidelines (or willingness to quickly learn NYC/NY state requirements for personal injury cases).
Preferred Experience
- Urgent Care/Emergency or Ortho: Previous work in urgent care, emergency medicine, orthopedics, or pain management settings, with exposure to treating acute injuries and trauma.
- Legal-Medical Environment: Experience in a personal injury clinic, occupational medicine, or working directly with legal teams (e.g., as a legal nurse consultant or in workers’ compensation cases).
- High-Volume Caseload: Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-volume practice, managing multiple patients and cases daily while maintaining attention to detail in documentation.
- EMR Proficiency: Proficient with electronic medical record systems (experience with EMR systems commonly used in multi-disciplinary clinics or personal injury case tracking is a plus). Ability to learn our specialized EMR quickly to input notes, generate reports, and track patient progress.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Prior experience collaborating in a multidisciplinary team (physicians, physical therapists, chiropractors, case managers), demonstrating a team-oriented approach to patient care.
Location
- New York City, NY – Position based in Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten island (New York City)
- Our main clinic is conveniently located in Manhattan, with easy access to public transportation (subway and bus lines).
- Expect a dynamic urban practice setting – treating patients from across NYC’s neighborhoods and working with attorneys from the metro area. Local familiarity is a plus, but all qualified candidates willing to work in NYC are welcome.
Salary Range
- Competitive NYC Salary: $130,000 – $160,000 per year, commensurate with experience and credentials.
Benefits
- 401(k)
- Malpractice Coverage: Occurrence-based malpractice insurance fully provided by the practice, including tail coverage, so you can practice with peace of mind.
- Flexible Schedule
Unique Aspects of Our Practice
- Specialized Injury Case Management: Our practice is dedicated solely to personal injury patients – from initial post-accident evaluations through rehabilitation. We have established protocols for common injury scenarios (e.g., auto accidents, construction injuries) and provide comprehensive case management to ensure each patient’s medical and administrative needs are met.
- State-of-the-Art EMR System: We utilize a modern Electronic Medical Records system specifically tailored for personal injury case tracking and documentation. This system streamlines report generation (e.g., narrative reports, workers’ comp forms) and facilitates smooth communication with attorneys and insurance companies.
- High-Volume, Impactful Caseload: Expect a diverse and high-volume caseload – on any given day you might see multiple new injury evaluations and follow-ups. While fast-paced, our environment is incredibly rewarding: you’ll develop deep expertise in injury care and make a tangible difference in helping patients recover and get fair support for their claims.
- Team Culture and Support: Join a multidisciplinary team including physicians, other NPs/PAs, physical therapists, and support staff who are experts in personal injury medicine. We foster a collaborative culture – weekly case review meetings with our medical director and attorneys ensure everyone is on the same page. You’ll also have administrative support for scheduling, referrals, and coordinating with law offices, so you can focus on clinical care.
