Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Legal Nurse Consultant to join our team. The ideal candidate will use their nursing and medical expertise, along with a strong understanding of legal principles, to assist attorneys in preparing cases related to healthcare issues. This role involves coordinating medical-legal matters, managing medical records, and providing expert medical insights to support our legal team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Review and analyze medical records to provide attorneys with a clear understanding of medical facts and issues pertinent to legal cases.
- Prepare comprehensive chronologies, timelines, and summaries of medical records to aid in case preparation.
- Coordinate with third-party review teams, ensuring the accuracy and relevance of their work.
- Conduct searches for relevant medical literature and assist in related research activities.
- Work with attorneys to evaluate case strengths and weaknesses, including causation and damage issues.
- Educate attorneys and clients on medical matters related to the case, offering insights and clarifications as needed.
- Locate and prepare demonstrative evidence for use in trials.
- Assist with preparation for and support during depositions, trials, or alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes.
- Provide expert medical opinions and insights on cases involving medical malpractice, personal injury, and other healthcare-related legal matters.
- Coordinate and manage medical-legal matters, including case evaluations, chronologies, and summaries of medical records.
- Oversee the preparation of legal documents, such as affidavits, declarations, and medical summaries.
- Educate and train legal staff on medical terminology, procedures, and issues relevant to their cases.
- Contact and confer with vendors to develop demonstrative evidence or gather information on costs related to healthcare services, supplies, or equipment.
- Provide support throughout discovery, depositions, trial, and other legal proceedings.
Qualifications - Registered Nurse with an Associate Degree in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
- Legal Nurse Consultant certification (LNCC via the AALNC preferred).
- Demonstrated proficiency in medical and damages analyses.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and handle multiple cases simultaneously.
- 3-5 years of recent clinical experience in a hospital setting, with ICU and ER experience preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience.
- Proficient in personal injury law involving motor vehicle accidents preferred.
- Excellent time management, multi-tasking, and critical thinking skills.
- Exceptional organizational skills with strict attention to detail.
- Previous experience working in a fast-paced high-volume environment.
