Role Summary This Head of Accounting position will oversee and lead the accounting, tax, treasury, and SOX compliance functions for Rivian and VW Group Technology Inc., reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). They will closely coordinate with the Accounting leadership at both Rivian and Volkswagen, fostering collaboration to align accounting practices and ensure consistency across the organizations. Responsibilities Leadership and Strategic Contribution Serve as a key leadership role within the Rivian and VW Group Technology leadership team, reporting directly to the CFO, and contribute strategically to the company's overall vision, growth, and success. Coordinate closely with senior leadership in accounting and finance at Rivian and Volkswagen to ensure alignment of financial strategies and practices. Accounting Oversight Build, manage, and lead high-performing accounting teams in establishing and maintaining robust accounting policies, controls, and processes to ensure full compliance with US GAAP, IFRS, SEC reporting standards, global tax regulations, statutory guidelines, and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements. Financial Reporting Coordinate the preparation, review, and approval of the company's financial statements, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to US GAAP, IFRS, and the timelines specified by Rivian and VW as outlined in the JV governing documents. Financial Reporting Systems Design and Implementation Lead the building, design, and implementation of financial reporting systems to support successful, timely, and accurate financial reporting. Ensure these systems are scalable, efficient, and align with both current and future organizational needs. External Communication and Reporting Drive external reporting processes and foster transparent communication with internal and external auditors, the Audit Committee, the Board of Directors, and parent company stakeholders. Craft high-impact presentations addressing key financial insights. SOX Compliance and Internal Controls Lead the design, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of the company's internal control environment and SOX compliance program, ensuring strong internal controls over financial reporting. Partner with auditors and the parent companies to address control deficiencies, enhance governance processes, and align SOX compliance with both the JV's and the parent companies' requirements and broader risk management objectives. Regulatory Compliance and Expertise Serve as the organization's subject matter expert on accounting standards and SEC regulations. Provide authoritative guidance, lead the implementation of new requirements, and ensure compliance with evolving regulatory frameworks. Collaboration with FP&A Collaborate with the financial planning and analysis (FP&A) organization to validate the accuracy of financial statements during monthly reviews. Establish a comprehensive reporting infrastructure for accurate, timely, and compliant reporting. Stakeholder Relationship Management Build and maintain strong relationships with Rivian and VW parent company leaders, stakeholders, banks, lenders, and financial institutions to ensure seamless collaboration and effective capital management. Complex Accounting Management Oversee complex and sensitive accounting areas such as software accounting, equity/share-based compensation, employee benefits, and coordinate the reconciliation between US GAAP and IFRS adjustments. Tax Planning and Compliance Lead all tax planning, compliance, and reporting activities. Ensure adherence to global tax regulations, manage transfer pricing policies, tax audits, and filings, and develop tax-efficient strategies to support organizational growth while minimizing risks associated with evolving tax regulations. Treasury Management Oversee the company's treasury operations, including cash management, liquidity planning, debt compliance, working capital optimization, foreign currency exposure management, and financial risk mitigation. Talent Development Develop and build the finance and accounting function by recruiting top talent, providing impactful training programs, and mentoring emerging leaders to sustain organizational growth and excellence. Project Management Be an effective project manager capable of overseeing cross-functional initiatives and ensuring the timely and accurate completion of accounting related projects. Qualifications At least 10–15 years of experience in accounting or finance At least 5 years of experience in management or leadership Experience in analyzing financial statements, budgeting, and forecasting Experience with regulatory compliance and internal controls Experience in leading and developing staff Bachelor's degree in accounting MBA or certification such as the CPA, CGMA, or CMA Pay Disclosure Salary Range for California based applicants: Base salary of $200,000- $325,000 annually (Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location and other factors permitted by law).
