Job Description


The EMS Supply Logistician will promote a supportive and encouraging work environment of continuous improvement and professional growth. The role of the EMS Supply Logistician is to manage, plan, develop, organize, and maintain the department's medical supplies and resources to ensure a constant state of mission readiness. The EMS Supply Logistician collaborates with all other internal support and operations personnel as well as a wide variety of hospital, county, and municipal departments and third-party vendors to ensure a high-reliability EMS system. The EMS Supply Logistician will model a safety-first culture, focused on delivering best-in-class customer service as determined by the policies, procedures, and standards of performance with Stafford County Fire & Rescue, and accepted standards of care.

Must be Registered/Certified/Licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia to dispense or administer Class II-VI medications.


The hiring range for this position is from $81,369.60 to $111,883.20 based on experience.
The full salary range for this position is from $81,369.60 to $142,396.80 to provide opportunity for growth and development.

The ideal candidate will have strong program management and logistics experience, with a proven ability to implement and manage supply chains, optimize inventory levels, and train EMS staff on best practices related to logistics and supply management.

Examples of Duties


  • Manage and track the inventory of all EMS supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels while minimizing waste and expiration of supplies.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive supply chain strategy, including procurement, storage, and distribution of EMS materials.
  • Coordinate with EMS leadership to ensure equipment needs are met based on operational demands and budget constraints.
  • Monitor and ensure that all EMS supplies are compliant with local, state, and federal regulations, including medical certifications and safety standards.
  • Implement and oversee a tracking system for medical supplies, including software management tools to streamline inventory and order processes.
  • Perform regular audits of supply inventory and ensure that all supplies are stored properly, securely, and in optimal condition.
  • Provide training for EMS staff on proper inventory management, use of supplies, and safety procedures related to medical equipment.
  • Work closely with the EMS logistics team to ensure efficient operations, including timely supply ordering, delivery, and restocking of vehicles and stations.
  • Manage the disposal of expired or obsolete equipment in accordance with county regulations and environmental safety protocols.
  • Prepare detailed reports on supply usage, budget adherence, and any logistical issues for leadership review.
  • Liaise with vendors, manufacturers, and service providers to secure competitive pricing and delivery schedules for EMS supplies.
  • Act as a point of contact for emergency supply needs during critical situations or shortages.
  • Develop and enforce policies for the safe handling, storage, and distribution of hazardous materials, such as medical waste or biohazards.
  • Ensure that staff are well-informed and compliant with procedures for stocking and maintaining EMS supplies.
  • Coordinate Annual Preventive Maintenance inspections with Equipment Vendors;
  • Troubleshoots vending machines and associated equipment and coordinates with vendors for maintenance and repair;
  • Repairs EMS Equipment as authorized;
  • Coordinates Yearly Station and Unit EMS Inspections;
  • Follows and keeps up to date on all appropriate state and federal requirements for dispensing and tracking of scheduled pharmaceutical supplies, from their ordering through their use to disposal;
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Knowledge of medical supply chain management requirements;
  • Knowledge of inventory control and recordkeeping methods and procedures;
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology, equipment, and systems;
  • Knowledge of or ability to work with various software platforms, including online purchasing, inventory management, messaging, and reporting;
  • Knowledge of or ability to work with mechanical equipment such as vending machines, labeling devices, vacuum sealers, etc.;
  • Strong critical-thinking skills and ability to apply analytical judgment;
  • Ability to work effectively with sensitive and confidential information;
  • Ability to closely follow written regulations and pay attention to detail;
  • Ability to organize, analyze, and summarize data and to create reports and perform presentations;
  • Ability to work with and understand number systems, simple formulas, practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions, and measurement;
  • Ability to set goals, create and manage schedules, and work independently;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships;
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.

Education and Experience

A combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree and 3 years of operational experience in a healthcare industry or pharmaceutical setting. Must be Registered/Certified/Licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia to dispense or administer Class II-VI medications.

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree in an applicable field
  • Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) certification;
  • FEMA Incident Command System (ICS) 100/200/700/800 certifications;
  • Operational Emergency Medical Services experience;
  • Logistics experience in any industry.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Criminal Records Check, including fingerprinting and standard background check;
  • Twelve-month probationary period;
  • No Office of EMS or relevant certifying organization compliance enforcement actions
  • Possession of a driver's license recognized by the Commonwealth of Virginia;
  • May be required to respond outside of normal work hours and during emergencies.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This is medium work requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Work requires stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken work. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm's length, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, and atmospheric conditions.
