Position Overview The Civic Engagement Community (CEC) Advocates key role is to support community members with access to opportunities for civic engagement, community education, and community resources across CAAs program areas working closely with the Civic Engagement team, and often working across teams. The position supports planning, coordination, and implementation of programs impacting monolingual and limited-English proficient (LEP) Chinese immigrant community members. In addition to working with the community more broadly, a core component of the Civic Engagement program is leadership development of directly impacted LEP Chinese community leaders, including the Outreach Specialists (OSs). The CEC Advocate plays an essential role in effectively communicating in-language to the Chinese-speaking community to advance Civic Engagement and CAA goals through community outreach, political education, and campaigns.Key ResponsibilitiesCivic EngagementSupport the development of a base of LEP Chinese immigrant community members engaged in CAA issues and campaigns through coaching and supporting emerging and existing community leaders to be active in CAAs workLead, manage, and coordinate the CAA Chat Room with the support and guidance from CE program manager and other staff and partners.Co-plan, lead, and facilitate regular internal meetings with the CAA Outreach SpecialistsParticipate in planning, coordinating, managing, and staffing, team-specific and cross-team projects, events, campaigns, and programming, which may be virtual or in-person, across CAA core issue areas, and leading logistics and supporting engagement of LEP Chinese community members, towards team and organization wide goalsSupport monolingual and LEP Chinese speaking CAA staff with administrative tasks and accessing engagement activities by bridging technological and linguistic barriersSupport the development and implementation of long and short term plans for the civic engagement program by monitoring trends and concerns within low-income, monolingual and LEP Chinese immigrant communities and providing strategic input, based on analysis of said trends, to inform civic engagement and community education curriculum, and CAAs grassroots policy and advocacy effortsManage vendors and contractors ensuring they meet project requirementsParticipate in and support the coordination of coalitions and partnerships Outreach Coordinate, conduct, and coordinate the Outreach Specialists to conduct, in-person and virtual outreach for CAA programs, services, and campaignsBuild and maintain relationships with immigrant serving community organizations and citywide institutions including through participation in community coalitions, campaigns, community events, and other partnership opportunities to represent CAA and expand CAAs reach and active participation in the communityDevelop, draft, coordinate and distribute bilingual digital communications, including outreach materials, with crucial information, and available community resourcesOther DutiesAdministrative duties to support CAA services and programs including data entry and tracking of progress and deliverables, responding to inquiries and connecting community members services ensuring the safe handling of sensitive and confidential informationContribute to fundraising and development activities for the organization as neededPerform other duties as assigned to support the overall mission of the organizationContribute to positive work environment in alignment with organizational valuesQualificationsOral fluency in Cantonese required, Chinese literacy a plusBachelors degree in Migration Studies, Asian American studies, Political Science, or other related fields desiredExperience with conducting community education presentations and workshops, one-on-one direct services, and community outreachFamiliarity with social change and the roles of various stakeholders in advancing change effortsFamiliarity with the basics of how the US immigration system operatesA strong passion and commitment to assisting monolingual and LEP immigrant families to navigate government bureaucracy and institutionsCommitment to social justice and to CAAs core valuesExperience working in low-income and immigrant communities Excellent inter-group, interpersonal communication and analytical skillsExcellent presentation skillsAbility to work both independently and commitment to working as part of a teamWillingness to work flexible hours- including weeknights and weekendsAbility to work in a fast-paced environmentProficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, Canva, WeChat and audio-editing skillsA valid California drivers license and access to a car is a plusHow To ApplyTo apply, please submit a cover letter and resume on Gusto.
