Your Role on the Team

Serves as the technical expert in: Radiation Safety. Problems are complex and may require creation of new methodologies by applying professional EHS knowledge and / or expertise. Serves as technical expert in the development / implementation of programs within one of these fields / disciplines. May represent EHS regarding the field / discipline at meetings and conferences involving academic compliance committees, campus, system wide, local government, state and federal levels of authority in matters related to field of expertise. Decision-making is based on established procedures and integration / interpretation of relevant laws, regulations and organizational policy; professional best practices; relevant science methodology, impact on other EHS programs; and senior management approvals. Decisions may impact other EHS programs, departments, segments of the organization and / or organization-wide.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $94,400-$105,000 (annually).
Required:

• Knowledge and ability sufficient to evaluate the need for shielding and to determine the types and amounts of shielding required.
• Knowledge and ability sufficient to operate instruments used in the program for measuring radiation and radioactive materials and to interpret the resulting measurements.
• Knowledge of applicable NRC regulations, regulatory guides, and NUREG series reports and ability to understand and effectively apply them.
• Knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology sufficient to understand health protection standards, theories, and practices.
• Advanced skill to appropriately use technology and relevant scientific equipment as required.
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills, including advanced political acumen and skill to effectively communicate with diverse constituencies in a highly political environment.
• Advanced analytical and organizational skills to organize, prioritize and manage the successful completion of projects within budget and time constraints.
• Advanced or expert knowledge and skill in applying and interpreting applicable local, state, and federal regulations and related standards, guidelines and, as appropriate, recommend organization policy.
• Advanced or expert knowledge / understanding of broad range of EHS fields and familiarity with all EHS fields.
• Advanced skill to effectively represent the organization to state and federal authorities, and community groups.
• Advanced skill in mentoring or overseeing the work of other EHS technical and professional staff.
• Must qualify under 10 CFR 33.13 and must have broad enough experience to take on a Broad Scope license, along with radiation safety aspects of the reactor, as well as the machine-produced radiation.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience of progressively more complex radiation safety experience.

Preferred:

• Professional certification preferred.

Special Conditions:

• May be called in for emergencies at any time, may work outside of regular scheduled shift. Will be part of the Emergency Support Team
• Must have a valid CA driver's license and participate in DMV pull-notice program
• Must be able to wear PPE
