Miami Children's Museum is looking for a new Afterschool Instructor to join their team!

Miami Children’s Museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational institution, which meets the needs of all children in our multicultural community. The Museum offers interactive exhibits, programs and learning materials related to arts, culture and our community. Miami Children’s Museum encourages visitors of all ages to play, learn, imagine and create together.

The Afterschool Instructor is responsible for the general supervision and management of a group of students. The Afterschool Certified Instructor is responsible for the differentiated instruction of students needing reading assistance. Oversee the implementation of the Reading component and assist other staff members in the training of this component.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for the safety and wellbeing of the children in your care.
  • Provides differentiated instruction to students identified as struggling readers.
  • Develops and implements lesson plans addressing students' needs in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
  • Trains and guides other staff on implementing the reading curriculum with fidelity.
  • Monitors and documents student progress, including attendance and behavioral challenges.
  • Implements an incentive program to address behavioral challenges and support student success.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and fosters cooperation among students and staff.
  • Completes required training and professional development.
  • Communicates with parents and the Site Coordinator about students' progress and concerns.
  • Maintains confidentiality of student and parent information.
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in education or related field.
  • MUST have a State of Florida Teaching Certificate, preferably in Reading.
  • At least one year experience leading groups of children in an educational setting (this time frame may be shorter for applicants with prior teaching experience within the Museum)
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently
  • Strong organization skills.
  • CPR/First Aid certified
